Wilson Apothecary – Palo Santo, or Bursera Graveolens, is a tree that can be found growing in the Yucatan Peninsula, as well as parts of Venezuela and Peru. The simple translation of Palo Santo is “Holy Wood,” which belongs to the same family as Frankincense and Myrrh. The wood, extracted resin and oils, have been used for thousands of years in traditional Shamanic rituals. These rituals are associated with the removal of negative energy, the attraction of positive energy, meditation, spiritual cleansing, and pain relief. The carved wood is used in jewelry or worn as an amulet. Palo Santo is primarily composed of limonene. Studies have shown that limonene displays properties of being antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, decongestant, expectorant, and insecticide.
